Previous to this announcement, SupportSoft is not aware of and has not received any information to indicate that this vulnerability has been publicly disclosed. Additionally SupportSoft is not aware of any active attacks using this vulnerability that have been made on its customers. However, SupportSoft is actively monitoring this situation to keep customers informed and to provide customer guidance as necessary.

SupportSoft does not typically provide updates for individuals that use SupportSoft's customer support software because support for those individuals is typically provided by the SupportSoft's customers themselves. We recommend getting the update directly from one of our customers; this will often be your broadband service provider, PC provider or employer. However, because of the nature of this specific security risk, SupportSoft is providing the update for these ActiveX controls on this page for any individual that has these controls and may not have already received an update from their Enterprise or DSP provider.

To determine whether you need this update, perform the following steps:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Search.

  2. Enter tgctlsi.dll and select to search your Local Hard Drives. This file is distributed with all products and should indicate the presence of SupportSoft controls. If you do not find this file, we recommend searching for any of the following files to insure that you do not have a vulnerable partial installation:

    - tgctlins.dll
    - sdcnetcheck.dll
    - tgctlar.dll
    - tgctlch.dll
    - tgctlpr.dll
    - tglib.dll
    - tgctlcm.dll
    - tgctlidx.dll

  3. If no files are found, then you do not need this patch.

  4. If one or more files are found, right-click on the file and choose Properties and then select the Version tab.

  5. If the version number starts with a 6 and is less than 6.8.627.0, then you should install the v6.5.x update below.

  6. If the version number starts with a 5 and is less than 5.6.1125.0, then you should install the v5.6x update below.

  7. If the version number is higher than those, then you do not need this update.
